For Immediate Release: (Chicago, IL) (April 21, 2008)—Towers Productions, Inc., the Chicago-based producer of factual and entertainment programs, announced today it is in development on a new reality TV series, “IT TAKES A PARENT,” featuring syndicated columnist and talk radio host Betsy Hart. A single mother of four young children, Hart is author of the acclaimed book It Takes a Parent and host of the popular radio show of the same name. Her column “From the Hart” is syndicated nationally through the Scripps Howard News Service. William Fisher, CEO of Towers Productions, says: “Betsy is a font of old-fashioned wisdom and a lightning rod for conflict with New Age thinking. Putting her together with fawning parents and coddled children in front of a camera represents reality television at its finest.” The new half-hour reality series will be based around Hart’s AM 1160 WYLL Chicago radio show, where she talks to families about the battles they are facing in their children’s young lives. “IT TAKES A PARENT” will follow Hart from her radio studio into the homes of real families, where she will wade into conflict in her bid to help parents “get their kids back.” Not all will come willingly. No stranger to controversy, Hart will push hot button topics for parents and kids alike. Series episodes include such politically incorrect subjects as: o Kids’ “right to privacy” – and why they shouldn’t have it. Get TVs and computers out of the bedrooms! o Corporal punishment: parents of young kids instinctively use it. But, does it work? o Internet pornography: don’t pretend your kids haven’t seen it. How do we help them deal with on-line porn and predators? o Is the “self-esteem” movement in our homes and schools creating a generation of narcissists? o “Safer” jungle gyms at the park, no more dodge ball because their bodies - or feelings - might get bruised. Why don’t we just bubble wrap our children? Betsy Hart says, “I see my job not as being yet another parenting expert, but to encourage parents to be their own experts, to trust their instincts, to dare to parent in a culture that tells them not to!” Hart appears frequently on television and radio, notably on Fox News and on Politically Incorrect, whose host, Bill Maher, says “She is one of our favorites on the show!” On an episode of the Oprah Winfrey Show, Hart was featured as one of America’s top five women columnists. Her book, It Takes a Parent: How the Culture of Pushover Parenting is Hurting out Kids – and What to do About It, was released in September, 2005, and was a top seller for Putnam Books. Hart is raising her 4 children, ages 7 through 14, in the suburbs of Chicago. Founded in 1989, Towers Productions, Inc. has produced over one thousand hours of factual and entertainment programming for US and international television networks including A&E, The Biography Channel, CNN, CourtTV (truTV), The History Channel, Discovery Networks, Lifetime, MSNBC, NBC, National Geographic Channel, PBS, WGN and The Weather Channel.
